Feeling the Love

Yesterday I started working on the wreath that would decorate our front door for the month of February. In honor of Valentine's Day I decided to make a rag wreath in the shape of a heart and after browsing the Internet for inspiration and reading various DIY tutorials I headed off to the local fabric store for supplies.

I came back with an 18" wire wreath form, 1/2 yard of three different fabrics (though I had to go back to the store this morning to purchase an additional 1/4 yard of each because I made my strips a bit too big and ran out) and a pair of pinking shears.

I started by bending the connectors so I could release one of the wire hoops. Once I had the smaller hoop, the one from the inside of the wire wreath form I used my hands to bend it into the shape of a heart.

I then laid out my fabric and using my new pinking shears (to reduce fraying) I cut the fabric from salvage to salvage in 1-1/2" strips then cut those down to 8" pieces.
After I had them all cut out I set about tying them tightly onto the wire heart shape. Be careful not to pull too tightly or you'll rip the fabric in half as I discovered a couple of times. I left the ripped strips tied on and just kept going. You won't notice it once you're all done and have fluffed up the fabric.
Here is the wreath before I tied on a small piece of wire onto it in order to hang it from the door.
TA-DA!! Not bad for my first attempt at a rag wreath, if I do say so myself. I put it up just for a second to see what it would look like and can't wait for it to go back up on February 1st!

Summer Bounty

The blackberries are ripe! So happy to have some nearby us, I thought for sure I was going to miss out this year. Now I get to make my momma's muffins, AKA Karen's Fresh Fruit Muffins....They're delicious!
And all from a couple cup fulls of blackberries.

Getting Dirty....

Before I tell you about my weekend I'll let you in on a little fact.....MURPHY HATES ME! Who is Murphy you ask? He's the Murphy in Murphy's Law...you know, the one who says what can go wrong, inevitably WILL go wrong!

I started out this weekend ready to do some cleaning. I loaded up the car, hopped in and started to back out of the parking space to make a quick trip to the local Goodwill Store just 10 minutes down the road. My quick, thirty minute trip turned into wekk over a two-hour process due to the flat tire that had developed over night.

Instead of calling AAA to have them come out and fix it I decided to do it myself. My car haveing been sandwiched between the other resident's vehicles I didn't think they'd be able to fit between the cars to do the job. So....out came everything from the trunk; the organizer, the roadside emergency kit, the spare tire and the jack....

After that hour-long process I drove to Les Schwab to find out that not only had that tire worn out one of the back tires was in the same shape and had I had to replace not just one tire, but two! They changed them out for me and then set me up with an appointment to come back later in the afternoon to have my allignment fixed...might as well get it all done at once.

THAT WAS YESTERDAY.....

Today I got up, and along with my other errand stopped by NAPA Auto Parts to get a replacement light bulb for my headlight that burned out over a month ago. I drove back to the apartment, popped the hood of my Hyundai and set about changing the headlight. AND because, as I've already stated, Murphy hates me, it wasn't the easy headlight to change....Nooooo....it was the one under the plastic plate and in front of the battery, both of which had to be removed before the headlight could be changed! But I did it, I got it all taken out, the light changed and put back together (the right way too)! I am WOMAN....hear me ROAR!

(Sorry for the bluriness, it was hard trying to hold the phone steady and try to keep it from getting grimy like my hands!)

Who's afraid of a little dirt.....certainly not me!

Summer's Bounty

Earlier this year I planted up a couple pots with my Momma's help, mostly flowers with one little tomato plant. Now though this poor tomato plant has grown to big to stay upright and keeps falling down...I went to Lowe's and after wandering around for about 20 minutes finally found an associate to help me locate what I was looking for. I came home with a plastic plant stake and some plant tape. I may have gone a little overboard with the length of the stake....after putting it in the planter it barely clears the ceiling of my porch.

The plant is now all staked up and ready to keep growing...I've even got a few tomatoes already!

Home Again, Home Again

Just one more day of work left before I leave Brian at home and take off for the weekend to spend some quality time with my family.....I'm so excited to see my folks, my grandparents and mybrother!

I've got a load of laundry in the dryer and a half-packed suitcase sitting on the bed while I take a quick break to eat my spaghetti dinner. Yes, I said dinner...I know it's after 11pm, don't judge!

Have a great weekend everyone, I know I will!

Saturday Morning

It's Saturday! Yeah for not having to go to work again 'til Monday! It's days like this I wish I could turn on the television and start watching all the Saturday morning cartoons I used to watch when I was little. I could really go for some Looney Tunes or Tom & Jerry right now, maybe some Flintstones and The Jetson's too. I may have to do a search on the internet and see what I can come up with....

I slept in this morning and am now spending some time surfing the web, following blogs and bookmarking craft ideas inspired by some very talented women.

Not sure yet what our plans for the day are, especially since I have no idea what time Brian got home from work last night. Though I do know it was late since I didn't go to bed until after midnight and he still had a couple of hours to go when I called to say goodnight. We're keeping our fingers crossed his schedule change goes through as planned in a couple of months! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Wi-Fi Enabled

We finally have our wireless internet up and running again! After trying and trying to get our old router to work we gave up on it and picked up a new one on our trip to the store today. Now, instead of sitting on one of our hard, not meant for long sitting and web browsing dining room chairs, I get to relax on the couch in comfort while I surf the web!
